Adrenal fatigue, examined carefully.

Persistent tiredness, “wired but tired” nights, and a body that no longer bounces back — these are real symptoms. We help you find the real cause, testing adrenal and thyroid function rather than guessing.

What is adrenal fatigue?

“Adrenal fatigue” is a popular term — not a formal medical diagnosis — used to describe a cluster of symptoms such as ongoing tiredness, low energy, and difficulty handling stress. The idea behind it is that chronic stress overworks the adrenal glands until they can no longer produce enough cortisol and related hormones.

It is important to be candid: major endocrine organizations do not currently recognize “adrenal fatigue” as a distinct, proven condition, and the evidence for it as described is limited. That does not mean the symptoms are imaginary. Fatigue, poor stress tolerance, and disrupted sleep are very real and often have identifiable, treatable causes.

Our role is to take those symptoms seriously and investigate them properly — evaluating cortisol patterns, thyroid function, blood sugar, sleep, and other hormones — and to rule out true adrenal disorders such as Addison’s disease or Cushing’s syndrome, which are diagnosable medical conditions that require specific care.

Symptoms

Signs to watch for.

  • Persistent fatigue that rest does not fully resolve
  • Feeling “wired but tired” — exhausted yet unable to wind down at night
  • Difficulty waking in the morning despite adequate sleep
  • Low tolerance for stress and a sense of being easily overwhelmed
  • Brain fog, poor focus, and low motivation
  • Salt or sugar cravings and energy crashes through the day
  • Reliance on caffeine to function
  • Reduced libido and a general loss of vitality

Causes

What's behind it.

  • Chronic, unrelenting psychological or physical stress
  • Poor or insufficient sleep and disrupted circadian rhythm
  • Thyroid dysfunction, which commonly mimics “adrenal fatigue” symptoms
  • Blood-sugar instability, insulin resistance, or nutritional gaps
  • Other hormone imbalances, including low testosterone or perimenopausal shifts
  • Underlying medical conditions such as anemia, sleep apnea, or depression
  • True adrenal disease (Addison’s or Cushing’s) — uncommon but important to exclude

When to see a physician.

  • Fatigue has lasted more than a few weeks or is steadily worsening
  • You have dizziness, unexplained weight loss, darkening of the skin, or very low blood pressure — possible signs of true adrenal disease that need prompt evaluation
  • Symptoms are interfering with work, relationships, or daily function
  • You have tried supplements or lifestyle changes without lasting relief

Common Questions

About adrenal fatigue.

01Is adrenal fatigue a real medical diagnosis?

It is not currently recognized as a formal diagnosis by major endocrine bodies, and the evidence for it as commonly described is limited. But the symptoms people attribute to it are real and usually have an identifiable, treatable cause — which is exactly what we work to find.

02How do you test for it?

We evaluate cortisol patterns along with thyroid function, blood sugar, and other hormones, and we screen for true adrenal disorders. The goal is to explain your fatigue with data rather than assume a single cause.

03Could my fatigue actually be a thyroid problem?

Very possibly. Thyroid dysfunction produces many of the same symptoms attributed to “adrenal fatigue,” which is why we test thyroid function as part of every fatigue work-up rather than treating the adrenals in isolation.

04Should I take adrenal supplements I see online?

We would caution against self-treating, particularly with products containing adrenal extract or undisclosed hormones. The safer path is to identify the actual cause first; we will then recommend only what is appropriate and monitored.
